(Here at manylaughs, we’re a little slow, sometimes. We missed this news item by a few days.)

On May 23, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be released on August 27, 2013. That’s awesome news for gamers and Final Fantasy fans.

If you pre-order you get a couple of silly in-game items, but you also will get early access. Let’s face it. If you’re a Final Fantasy fan you’re going to play this game, so you might as well pre-order it and get the early access. No details, yet, on how much early access time you’ll get. Details on pre-orders are here.

It also looks like Square Enix is trying to make nice with their former players. “Previous FINAL FANTASY XIV players will be able to download the PC version of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn for free.” Now, that’s pretty nice. It’s not often you see a company give you the new version of their game for free, even if the previous game was crap. Let’s just hope there’s not some fine print, somewhere… You can read the release info, here. Maybe you can find the fine print.

If you never played FFXIV, Square Enix is actually offering the game at a very reasonable price – $29.99.
