Fall: Catching the curve of the light

I like to use black and white selectively, usually when I want to emphasize shapes, contrasting tones, or the light of a scene. This image is a nice example of that.

This was originally a color photo, but I changed it to black and white in Lightroom. I felt the most interesting thing in the image was the light glowing around the fuzzy thing (I have no idea what that’s called. A bud??) at the end of the reed. By making the image b&w, I was able to eliminate the “distraction of color” and the bokeh in the background; those elements might have drawn your eye away from the most important element of the photo–the brightly glowing, fuzzy thing.

The reed makes a very pleasing curve, too. <3
