Have I ganked you?

Photography

Gold: Golden Goddess

I recently got back from Las Vegas, after visiting for a conference. I took a ton of photos while I was there, so while it’s not my kind of city, it was a productive and fun trip. It’s definitely a great place to take photos.

One thing I noticed, and this certainly makes sense, is that one of the predominant decor colors is gold. Gold is just everywhere. It might not end up in your pocket–the odds are against you, there–but it’s pretty much everywhere you go. In my mind, I’ve always felt this cheapens its effect. If gold is everywhere, is it really that valuable? Maybe a casino with blue tones with be a nice departure from this golden opulence.

Today’s photo is a statue of standing in the halls of the Bellagio Casino. I believe she is the bodhisattva, Kwan Yin, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on that. I’m certainly not an authority on Buddhist deities.

Oh, I guess I should say, I guess I could have taken a photo showing the entire statue, but I do like to show things a little differently when I can. And you probably know by now that I love getting up close. Not sure how well that’s going to work with people. : )
